Hinds: "Leave Me Alone" Album Review

January 10, 2017

In late 2015, I was privileged enough to catch one of my favorite bands, Hinds, at a local venue

as they toured with NYC based band, Public Access TV. I got to chat a bit with the girls and

have them sign a t-shirt (or two). I discovered Hinds through online browsing and learned to love their sound.

Hinds is an all girl indie-garage band. They were all born and raised in Madrid, Spain, and joined together in 2011 to make music. Their sound is extremely creative and something that is easily admirable from the start. The band members (Carlotta Cosials, Ana García Perrote, Ade Martín and Amber Grimbergen) create a genuine and loving atmosphere.

Not too long after seeing their show, they came out with their first record, "Leave Me Alone". It had a few songs I was definitely familiar with, but didn’t recognize a good portion of them. I spent a bulk of my year learning the lyrics and becoming more familiar with the album.

This was my album of 2016. Listening to the album brought back nostalgia from the cold night in October 2015. My obsession with this band started to grow, so I decided to take it to YouTube. I found their personal and Vevo accounts and fell even more in love. Their music videos are very relatable, yet so imaginative.

Hinds recently posted a video to reflect on their long tour for the album release. It’s a collection of places they’ve been throughout the journey. The video gives a little insight to their lives and personalities. I not only have fallen in love with this band and album, but the band members as a whole (and the bands they have toured with, of course).

We all have an album that we’ve become enthralled with each year. This album has been that for me. It’s been with me through ups and downs. Hinds can be seen going above and beyond. We’re all ready for a new album and tour already. Let’s make 2017 another great year for music.
